Erba alta ha lavorato alle storie di un gruppo di persone che vivono accanto a grandi fabbricati in disuso, stabilendo con gli edifici un rapporto particolare ed esprimendo una cura senza scopo apparente. Un sentimento che sembra non avere nulla a che fare con gli approcci consueti del recupero, del riuso e con simili standard di simulazione affettiva. Una esperienza forse precedente ad operazioni reali di riqualificazione, ma non necessariamente motivata da queste possibilità. Un intermezzo indeciso. Un affetto ambientale che genera dinamiche inattese tra le persone, le strutture, la natura.

Erba alta worked around the stories of a group of persons living next to big abandoned buildings, establishing with these a particular relation and expressing an apparently aimless care. A feeling that seems to have nothing to do with the usual approaches of recovery, reuse and similar standards of affective simulation. An experience maybe preceding real regeneration operations, but not necessarily induced by this possibility. An open interlude. An environmental affection generating unexpected dynamics in people, structures, nature.

E’ stato necessario calibrare un livello inedito di sintonia per mettere a fuoco gli episodi narrativi di una relazione con gli edifici non impostata dal punto di vista consueto dell’architettura. Del resto è probabile che Erba alta si sia concentrato emotivamente sulla attesa perchè piuttosto convinto della possibilità che non ci siano idee progettuali efficaci in circolazione, preferendo quindi stabilire prima una relazione per magari poi nutrirla progressivamente di senso.

It was necessary to calibrate an original tuning level to put into focus the narrative episodes of a relation with the buildings unpatterned after the customary viewpoint of architecture. After all it is probable that Erba alta emotionally concentrated on the wait, because of the belief that there are no projectual ideas around, thus preferring to first establish a relation, then possibly nourishing it gradually with sense.

L’operazione narrativa non è il solo ambito da cui i modi dell’architettura siano spariti durante il lavoro. Il mio progetto per questi piccoli insediamenti poteva essere fuorviante ed ho preferito che non contasse molto nel processo, se non per la possibilità di innescare la scrittura di poche storie seducenti. I quattro grandi disegni che Erba alta ha prodotto sono gli scenari di queste storie. I luoghi in cui magari una ragazza che corre attorno ai fabbricati, impiegando sempre meno tempo, ha la sensazione che gli edifici si riducano fino a poterli tenere in tasca.

The narrative operation is not the unique scope from which the architecture modes disappeared during the work. My project about these small settlements could work misleading and I preferred it not to matter much in the process, except for triggering the writing of a few enticing stories. The four large drawings produced by Erba alta are the scenes of these stories. Places in which maybe a girl running all around the buildings, running faster and faster, has the feeling that the buildings’ size becomes smaller and smaller up to be able to put them in her pockets.

Poi ci sono storie che hanno a che fare con la qualità indefinita di questo territorio, che offre esperienze intense soltanto a muoversi da qui a lì, e sono storie che servono a comprenderne la natura particolare ed a mantenerla quando si costruiscono cose nuove.

Ed ancora, storie e sensazioni più imprecise dell’atmosfera notturna, rotta ed aggressiva di questi grandi spazi.

Then there are stories that deal with the indefinite quality of this territory, offering intense experiences if you just move within a limited space, and these are stories that let you understand their peculiar nature and to keep it when new things are built.

And again, vaguer stories and sensations of the broken and aggressive atmosphere of these wide spaces by night.

Erba alta ha prodotto un sentimento che mi ha fatto stare bene. Il progetto ha un carattere aperto e surreale insolito per il mio lavoro e magari capace di ispirare anche altre persone. I disegni mi sembrano piuttosto potenti ed onesti verso il lavoro artigianale che li ha generati. Per me bene così.

Erba alta produced an emotion that made me feel good. The project has an open and surreal character unusual for my work and possibly capable of inspiring other people too. The drawings appear to me rather powerful and fair in front of the artisanal work generating them. That’s all for me.
